Raising funds for Charity: Contributed an amount of Rs. 6,67,000.00 to the India Prime Minister Gujarat Relief Fund. Charity is one of the main elements of the EBGI Charter and one of the Council Members is responsible for administering this activity with the direct intervention of the Chairman.
Funds for charity emanate from two main sources; special fund raising events (e.g. dinners) and the excess funds available at the end of a financial year from subscriptions. The latter also helps EBGI by not paying tax on 'profit' reflecting truly the image of a non-profit organization.
In the past, the EBGI has disbursed funds to charities known to Council Members or perhaps visited by a Council Member carrying out social welfare in and around Delhi. Since the beginning, the EBGI has been supporting two organizations namely Purboshree Mahila Samity (PMS) and R.E.Grant Govan Memorial Homes (GGM), while in the past EBGI has donated to the Prime Minister's fund during the Orissa Cyclone and more recently to the Gujarat Earthquake Relief Fund. The EBGI continued to support organizations active in developing the society in large and in the current year it supported Grant Govan Memorial Homes, a retirement home for Anglo Indians of limited means, and Purboshree Mahila Samity, a social welfare organization managed by women and is involved in multifarious activities focused on the economically backward community residing mostly in slums nearby. Salaam Balaak Trust was suggested by Lady Arthur. The other new beneficiaries were Delhi BrotherHood Society;Udayan Care, a home for orphans and Jeevashram, an Animal Care Centre in Rajokri, New Delhi.
